Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Parker and I am a rising senior at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. For three weeks this summer, I will be traveling with a group of Computer Science students at UNC to study Modern Web Programming with Professor Jordan.
I am a native North Carolinian, until recently when my family picked up and moved up to the midwest in Minnesota. There was definitely an adjustment period, primarily with the temperature differences, however, this move was one of the best things that ever happened and has morphed me into the person I am today.
I am primarily involved in Phi Beta Chi sorority and the Women in Economics Club at UNC where I hold leadership positions in both organizations. For Phi Beta Chi, I am the Director of Finance and Fundraising Chair, because of my desire to eventually enter into the financial field. I hope to combine both of my majors in my future career one day.
I am double majoring in Economics and Computer Science at UNC, however it did not begin this way. Originally, I began college majoring in Chemistry, with a focus toward Med School. Over freshman, I realized that this was not my dream and I now had to find a new one. This is how I fell into Computer Science.
Second semester freshman year, I took an introductory prorgamming course with Professor Jordan and absolutely fell in love with Computer Science. That course is the reason why I confidently changed my majors and never looked back. When I learned about this study abroad program with Professor Jordan, I immediately knew that I wanted to apply and am so thankful to get the opportunity to take this journey.
I fell in love with programming at UNC and can't wait to do it all over again while in Copenhagen.
